2012 is here!

A big welcome to the new students and families of Room 21!
I hope you've had a great holiday and are ready to get back into things at MLPS.

India:
I have recently been away in India visiting a number of children's homes and a couple schools across 3 states of Southern India, Andra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It was a great time away and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank those who turned out in support of our Art Gallery Fundraiser last year!

The children all received a small gift, consisting of items such as small soft toy or a car for the boys, pencils,  pens, stickers, balloons, pens, notebooks, soap, face cloths, hair clips etc etc...

We were able to put some the fundraised money to good use... In Andra Pradesh we helped pay for 2 new urgently needed tyres for the children's home jeep. In Chennai we contributed to a new stove for the children's home (which due to overuse blew up). We also were able to give a love offering to one of the leper colonies in Bangalore who with the help of GNL supporters are no longer homeless but  are staying in a nice rental home. So a big thank you once again.

Learning:
School has started and we are here to learn, so please do check in from time to time to find out what we are getting up to and get the latest and greatest updates from behind the scenes of Room 21!

Homework/Spelling:
Homework sheets and spelling lists went out today. Spelling lists will be sent out weekly. Students will be expected to be tested daily and record their results in their spelling notebook. It is fine for an older brother/sister or sibling to test them :)

Homework is due fortnightly. All students are expected to complete a total of 100 points every fortnight. These will be buddy marked in class and the points recorded. It is each students responsibility to ask questions and find out all they need to know in order to complete each task and submit their homework in on time. All work including homework should be completed with a high standard of presentation and effort.

Swimming:
Swimming for Room 21 will take place on Monday and Wednesday. Please encourage your child to participate in these lessons as the swimming season is short and soon over. I will be assessing students on their basic swimming ability.

Stationery:
By this stage students should have a full set of stationery. We are starting to get into the full swing of our class programme so all books, pencils etc are required.

Botanical Garden Visit:
This is coming up next week on Thursday 23 February. Please ensure you have returned your child's permission slip and money to the office before this date.

3 Way Conferences:
We are beginning to prepare for our meeting with parents, students and myself. The students of Room 21 will be leading this meeting so as a reminder your child will need to be present at the interview. We can't wait to share their goals and next steps with you.

Well that's it for now...

If you have any questions or queries please don't hesitate to come and see me or email me on janem@marshall.school.nz

Thanks :)

Miss Malloy
